There are few better ways to explore the coastline and Islands of tropical North Queensland than in a Sea Kayak. The close proximity to nature that Kayaks allow gives detailed insights into the environment both above and below the water. We often have amazing encounters with dolphins, turtles and other marine life while paddling around History rich Double Island.

Tours

Our Tours are offered year round catering equally for those seeking a peaceful paddle or a bit of adventure. Our Sunrise and half-day tours run daily.
We will teach you paddling strokes and techniques to give you maximum benefit from your effort. All safety information is clearly explained and demonstrated. Our highly stable single and double sit on top kayaks are well suited to our guests from beginners to experienced kayakers. On each tour we visit Double Island departing 100metres South of the Palm Cove Pier.
 

Sunrise Tour

Approximately 6a.m. we depart Palm Cove beach.

Lazily paddling your kayak you can see the first fingers of dawn
reaching out over Double Island. The exhilarating feeling of sitting so close to the water and the rhythmical action of the paddle will almost send you into a state of meditation, the trance can be broken by a turtle, fish or sting ray suddenly popping out of the water as if to say good morning. The fringing reef surrounding the island wakes.
The Sunrise over the water will grapple your attention away from the busy marine animals.  After a 30-minute paddle (approx) we beach our Kayak’s on Double Island. Over chilled refreshments and juicy fruits the panorama of Palm Cove unfolds and tide permitting, a walk along the sand bank to look for more marine life. After spending half an hour on the island its time to depart for the kayak back to Palm Cove arriving around 7.30am. It is the most exhilarating way to start your day.

Half Day Tours

Our half-day tours depart twice daily. Our Morning tour departs at 8.30am and arrives back at 12.00p.m.  The afternoon tour departs at 1.30p.m and arrives back at 5.00p.m.

On the first leg of our journey we depart Palm Cove and head off toward Double Island. About 500 meters from the island you will notice the water becoming shallow and the first signs of the fringing reef emerge.  This is our opportunity to start looking for the plethora of marine life that live in the area. We beach our kayaks and tide permitting, a walk along the sand bank to see what other aquatic animals we can discover. Here our guide will give you an insight into the amazing history of the island and you can take in the beautiful panorama of the coastline and surrounding islands. 

The tour then kayaks around to the northern side of the island to a secluded, sheltered little beach nestled in between rocky cliffs and Pandanus trees. Here we take time to chill out and enjoy the stunning views of the Daintree and Cape Tribulation, while enjoying a morning or afternoon tea consisting of tropical fruits, juice and cakes. Between May and November we are able to don a mask and snorkel and explore the reef.

We then complete our circumnavigation of Double Island as we head for the mainland.  This last paddle is around 45 minutes. There is minimal fitness required .  Transfers are available from your Hotel in Cairns or Port Douglas for this tour.

Bookings are essential as we only take very small groups on this eco-friendly tour.

Watersports Collection  

Parasailing is available throughout the year. Water-skiing, wakeboarding, big banana rides, tube rides, windsurfing, rocket rides and much more is available from May to November and are weather dependant.  These activities depart from the beach at the corner of Harper Street and Williams Esplanade, Palm Cove.
